The recent completion of the first phase of the Dholera SIR (Special Investment Region) project during the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit marks a significant milestone in India's urban development landscape. Covering an impressive 22.54 square kilometers with an outstanding 95% success rate, Dholera stands tall as India's premier platinum-rated industrial smart city.
At the heart of its accolades is the Green City Rating bestowed by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a testament to Dholera's commitment to sustainable urbanization. This distinction not only marks it as India's first greenfield smart city but also as the world's pioneer in this category.
Situated approximately 80 kilometers south of Ahmedabad and 130 kilometers from Gandhinagar, the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) is more than just a city; it's a transformative vision. Spanning an area twice the size of India's capital, Delhi, and six times larger than China's smart city, Shanghai, DSIR is poised to become a global benchmark in industrial development.
One of DSIR's core objectives is to foster a conducive environment for non-polluting industries. Equipped with state-of-the-art plug-and-play infrastructure and competitive power tariffs, Dholera beckons industries seeking a progressive ecosystem for growth.
The Activation Area, constituting the project's first phase, is a sprawling 22.54 square kilometers enclave. It encompasses a diverse spectrum of facilities ranging from industrial zones to residential spaces, mixed-use developments, entertainment avenues, social amenities, and travel infrastructure. With land parcels ranging from 1 acre to 330 acres, DSIR offers unparalleled flexibility for industrial expansion.
Connectivity lies at the heart of Dholera's allure. The region boasts seamless access via air, road, rail, and sea routes. An ultra-modern 4-lane expressway from Ahmedabad, slated for completion by 2024, will further enhance accessibility. Plans for a robust metro rail network are also underway to bolster intra-city connectivity.
The region's transportation infrastructure doesn't stop there. The Bhimnath-Dholera Freight Rail Line, with an approved Detailed Project Report, promises enhanced freight movement efficiency through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), linking crucial seaports.
In the aviation sector, Dholera International Airport, scheduled for cargo operations by December 2025, is primed to handle significant traffic, further catalyzing economic activity. The city's strategic positioning along the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) and Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) augurs well for businesses eyeing a strategic foothold in India.
With a diverse array of sectors ripe for investment—from defense and aviation to electronics, biotechnology, and heavy engineering—DSIR stands as a beacon of opportunity. Its commitment to global standards of sustainability and development makes it not just a city but a paradigm shift in India's investment landscape.
